Volunteering whilst on Benefits
Click here to download the latest version of Volunteering While Receiving Benefits booklet from The Department for Work and Pensions. This booklet outlines everything you need to know about this.
However, in a nutshell:
There is no limit to the amount of hours a person can volunteer whilst receiving benefits, however you may need to let your job centre advisor know that you are volunteering (as a stepping stone into paid employment for experience, something to put on your CV, etc).
If you are claiming Job Seeker's Allowance, you need to be available for an interview within 48 hours and to be able to take up paid employment within a week.
This is not a problem when you are volunteering as volunteering is flexible, but of course, keep your volunteering supervisor up-to-date with what is going on. If you leave suddenly, they will worry about you!
If you have any questions about this, please give us a ring on 020 7424 9990 or send us email to info@volunteercentrecamden.org.uk.
