Trusteeship Volunteering: Being a Volunteer Charity Manager
Volunteer Centre Camden is offering a service to support a business’s staff to become charity trustees.
What is being a Trustee about?
Being a charity trustee is about helping the world become a better place. Small local, national and even the multi-national charities all have a board of trustees who make decisions about the organisations work.
Volunteering as a trustee gives staff an opportunity to share their knowledge with another sector, gives them an opportunity to bring a fresh pair of eyes to a charity, gives staff an opportunity to learn management and leadership skills, or use existing skills in a completely different environment.
The service from Volunteer Centre Camden includes:
- Providing information to staff about what being a trustee involves. This would include written information, and up to 2 briefings where people would have an opportunity to ask questions, and hear from people who are already trustees for different organisations.
- A training session for staff who are interested in being trustees to assist them in developing their skills and understanding.
- One-to-one (telephone, email, and in person) support for staff who have completed training to place them in a local organisation as a trustee. This will include looking at the volunteer’s skills, interests and the needs of the organisation.
- We will provide on-going feedback about who have been placed in which organisation.
- A survey with those who have contacted the project to gain feedback on the work, and feedback on the business’s employer supported volunteering if required.
What are the benefits of being a trustee?
This service means that staff will be trained before going into a trustee role. This will contribute to staff knowledge and skills, and increase the profile of the business taking part in the local community.
Being a trustee offers staff a flexible time commitment. The organisations that they will be placed with will be in the London Borough of Camden, reducing travel time from the work place, to the volunteering activity. Staff will learn more about how charitable organisations operate.
